MONTESSORI

About Dr. Maria Montessori
Dr. Maria Montessori was the first female Doctorate in Italy. She introduced the Montessori method of education and developed scientifically-designed materials that distinctively allow children to enhance their senses and learn at their own pace.
Montessori Method
A Montessori-prepared environment is divided into five curriculum areas: Practical Life; Sensorial; Math; Language; Cultural. These materials stimulate a child's natural eagerness to learn and explore their skills. Therefore, the Montessori curriculum helps develop children physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively.

Math
Montessori Math curriculum is very unique as the child is able to discover math with hands on approach. While learning the quantities and the symbols the child is able to physically manipulate the materials in order to form a concrete understanding of math. A child who masters the numbers from 0 to 9 can move forward all the way to learn the decimals using the Montessori materials. Each child is able to work at their own pace and once they develop their writing skills they are able to do addition , multiplication , subtraction and division activities as it is easier to understand more abstract concepts using the Montessori materials.
Sensorial
Sensorial materials lay the foundation for learning through the enhanced use of the five senses. These scientifically-designed materials isolate each sense so that the child can work independently to develop their visual, tactile, auditory, gustatory, olfactory, and stereognostic senses. Even if a chid is able to experience colors, shapes, and sizes from their environment since birth, when they are in the Montessori environment, we are able stimulate, develop, and refine their senses by using these materials. Through these activities, they will understand colors, shapes, sizes, sounds, and touch which will prepare them for advance math, language, and logical thinking.
Practical Life
Practical life exercises play a very important role in a Montessori classroom. Care of the person, environment, and social graces are taught in this area through daily activities. Children develop their fine and gross motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and concentration by engaging in pouring, spooning, and threading activities. In perfecting these skills, children form self confidence and sense of order.

Language
We expand the child’s vocabulary through different activities such as naming fruits, vegetable, animals and then introduce the beginning sounds using sand paper letters and objects. The child will then start hearing different sounds in words using the objects and learn to build three letter phonetic words using the Movable alphabet box. While learning to build words children will develop their writing skills through different activities in the language area.Every lesson in language is presented in order from left to right, giving children an early concept of reading and writing.
Cultural
The Cultural area serves to help the children to acquire their appreciation of the natural world around them through exploration and observation. Geography , Botany ,and Zoology materials in our cultural are allows the child to be very hands on and provides information that would interest to get a better understanding about their environment and the world.
